Borrowing tropes used in close-up magic, such as levitation and misdirection of space and light, I explore the fundamental overlap between the history and practice of photography and illusions of certainty. Both the magician and the photographer must create a playing field within a viewer's mind in order for magic to occur, which often requires suspension of disbelief. My images keep things up in the air, both literally and figuratively, suggesting multiple explanations which are not reducible or conclusive.
